Unlocking The Past

Unlock 1 Nate comes up the stairs from the water room inside the fortress. Walk out the room to the courtyard below the bell tower. 2 mercenaries run into the courtyard from the truck and duck for cover. 2 snipers are on the lookout catwalk above the courtyard. Hide inside the darkened entrance away from direct fire. Peek out from behind the wall and shoot the mercenaries on the ground. Run out and roll for cover behind the front fender of the truck. Take down the 2 snipers.

Unlock 2 When it goes quiet, search both men for AK-47 ammo and an MP40. Walk up the steps on the right to the upper lookout. Quickly hide behind the pillar at the top of the steps. 4 more snipers have you surrounded. Pick them off one by one, from left to right, before you get seriously injured. If you don't act fast, you'll be dead from the crossfire. Once all 4 are dead, walk to the left along the lookout and collect all the ammo from the dead men. Find the big tree.

Unlock 3 Walk behind the big tree on the right. Pick-up treasure 23/60 Silver Inca Mask. Take a minute to look at the scenery out over the ocean. You can see clear across the inlet bay to the customs house while the clouds slowly move across the mountains. Amazing! Walk along the lookout to the left. Collect all the ammo and make your way around to the far side. Find the chain winch. Use [triangle] and open the iron gate below. Walk back down to the courtyard.

Unlock 4 Go through the now-opened archway into the next courtyard with the broken pillars. Go down the hallway on the left to the very end. Go to the door. Use [select]. The clue in Drake's book shows the bell tower next to a sketch of a set of keys. That's where the keys to open this door must be hidden. Find the shortest pillar and climb up top. Jump to the net pillar and climb up top. Jump to the wall ledge on the right. Run to the end and jump left to the next pillar. Shimy right.

Unlock 5 Pull-up on the broken pillar. A perched seagull flies away. Jump to the far ledge on the far wall. Walk to the left. Pull on the rope [triangle] holding the small overhead platform. [action sequence] Drake pulls on the rope freeing it from the wall. He swings over to the middle, bounces off a pillar, causing 2 pillars to collapse, but loses his grip and falls to the ground. The platform lets go and falls to the ground. [circle] Roll away from the impact area (almost killed).

Unlock 6 Jump to the broken pillar straight ahead (that you just broke). Climb up top to the stone ledge. Jump to the hole in the stone wall. Outside, turn to Nate's left. Jump across the wall ledges to the right. Climb up the far wall to the top, then shimy to the right. Jump to the top of the stone wall above the winch. The wall starts to break away from the foundation. Jump and grab the stone ledge on the bell tower, before the wall collapses. Climb the tower to the open window.

Unlock 7 Climb up inside the open window. Jump across the gap inside the tower to the ledge of the window on the other side. Pull-up and safety-drop [circle] outside. Shimy to the right then climb up the tower to the very top. Pull-up into the open window at the very top. Walk up to the skeleton. [short movie scene] Nate shoves the bones aside and picks up the keys on the floor. From the edge of the wooden floor, safety drop and slide down the rope to the bottom.

Unlock 8 From the bottom of the bell tower, walk back out along the lookout, back down the steps, into the other courtyard. Walk to the end of the left hallway. Open the door with your keys. Walk down the dark corridors. Grab the grenades and ammo along the way. In the next open courtyard, ANOTHER GUN FIGHT! Run out to the stone pillar on the left. All sorts of mercenaries come running out. I counted 10 in the first wave, and of course, another machine-gun turret!

Unlock 9 STAY WHERE YOU ARE! If you try to run for cover behind the crates on the right, you'll take crossfire from all directions and the turret will break-up the crates, leaving you exposed. Use your AK-47 as the enemies start to move up the crates on the right. Pick em off as they try to gain position on you. When it goes almost quiet (1 or 2 left), load your 9MM, peek out and shoot the turret on the upper terrace. Or... run over and grab the M79 RPG and blast him out.

Unlock 10 STRATEGY: Shoot at the guy manning the machine gun turret (when it goes quiet for a second) even if he's protected by a shield. The ricochets from your bullets will spook him for a few seconds and he'll jump out from behind the turret. Sometimes this is all the distraction you need to get a clean shot on his body, before he begins firing again. It certainly gave enough time to run over, aim, and shoot the RPG! Once all is quiet, go and scrounge around for ammo.

Unlock 11 At the other end of the courtyard, walk into the shadowed passage towards the back gate. Climb up the debris along the left wall. Pick-up treasure 24/60 Spanish Silver Coin. Go to the right side of the courtyard and find the winch. Pull up the iron gate [triangle] and quickly run up the stairs before it closes again. It closes behind you. Go up and around the stairs, back outside. Walk up the steps to the upper terrace hall. Duck for cover behind one of the stone arches.

Unlock 12 If you don't have an MP40, now would be a good time to pick it up (on the crates). Pick off the men as they come running down the hall. They'll duck behind the crates trying to advance on you. Some have AK-47's but most have shotguns, so stay down. Work your way along the terrace collecting ammo as you go. AVOID THE MOSS-12 SHOTGUN for now! There's not enough firepower for what you need and it's not good at long range. Stick with the AK-47.

Unlock 13 Walk around the corner and down the back terrace. Go to the machine-gun turret. Use the turret [triangle] and shoot the men running into the courtyard below. Once they're all dead, walk down the dark stairs on the left. Drop down to the dark hallway. You'll be at ground level now. Before going left, walk around the back of the stairs on the right and pick-up treasure 25/60 Silver Tairona Pendant. You should now achieve the Skilled Fortune Hunter medal.

Unlock 14 Walk through the rooms into the larger pillared room. Approach the table with the helmet. [movie sequence begins] Nate picks up the helmet and believes it to be English. He turns on the spotlights and looks at the hand-drawn map on the wall. Sir Francis Drake and the English WERE here! They moved the treasure to antoher part of the island! I'll be damned. When gameplay returns, take care of the fat guy with the shotgun. Walk up the stairs and go back outside.

Unlock 15 We're back on the lookout path along the far side of the fortress. Up ahead, Nate sees Drake's tower (his residence) in the distance. Duck for cover! 3 men run out from the building. Take them down quickly with grenades and then the AK-47, before they spread out. Once they're down, go up and clean-out their ammo. Walk into the building on the left. Walk up the broken steps to the end. Jump up to the wall ledge on the left and climb to the broken terrace.

Unlock 16 Walk around the back of the trees and over the stone rubble to the back of the terrace. On the ground, in the corner, pick-up treasure 26/60 Gold Llama. Make your way back across the rubble and jump across the wall on the left. Shimy along the wall ledges to the set of broken steps on the other side. Walk up the steps to the building and go inside. Walk out the other end of the hallway. Leap across the gap and grab the ledge on the stone pillar straight ahead.

Unlock 17 Shimy around to the right. Lean back. Leap to the right wall. Shimy to the left and grab the next pillar. Climb up to the top and jump to the back wall. Shimy left around the croner. Make your way along the back wall all the way to the left. From the last ledge, jump to the opening in the far wall and pull up. Walk up the flights of stairs to the top. Walk inside Sir Francis Drake's residence (or maybe it was his field office). Walk out to the balcony overlooking the water.

Unlock 18 [movie sequence begins] Nate walks out to the balcony. He sees an old spyglass telescope lying on the railing. It's Sir Francis Drake's! He looks through it and pans across the bay and finds the customs house, where they were probably going to load all the treasures. It looks like the tall ships anchored nearby, never left the island? They were intentionally sunk in the water? He then pans down and sees Elena filming right below him!

Unlock 19 [action sequence] When gameplay returns, you have to act very quickly. There are 2 men with an RPG grenade launcher [1] who are aimed on Elena. If you don't get the shooter within 2-3 seconds, he'll kill Elena with a rocket grenade. DON'T WORRY! You'll get a replay if you miss. Kill him. The other soldier, turns around and blows the balcony where you're standing. You fall! You're now asleep in a jail cell. CHAPTER ENDS.
