This is it! The final level of the game. As Lara walks down the tunnel, she starts to slide. Jump to the ledge on the left to avoid the spears. This is quite the trap. Jump over the lava trench to the far side of the tunnel. Another set of spears will try to jab you. Walk down the rest of the tunnel, and through the door into Eckhardt's Lab. |
Lara enters the wood-frame room. It looks like it was very recently deserted. There's a fire in the fireplace and an experiment is still running on one of the nearby tables. It appears Eckhardt has revived the Nephilim SLEEPER, using some sort of electrical shock device. Exploring around, Lara discovers that the pool in the back room is poisonous water and the exit to the cave tunnel, is locked by an iron gate. The pool under the cage is also toxic. |
Go up the stairs, to the back of the room on the right. On the table is a rack. Grab the Alchemist's Phial #1. The lower receptacle doesn't work. The stairs to the upper level are broken and Lara can't jump up to grab the ledge. By the overhead cage, there's a lever. This opens a trapdoor along the wall, giving access to the ladder to the upper catwalk. Now, 2 skeleton warriors come out of nowhere. Lure them into the pit. Climb the ladder, walk along the catwalk and insert the phial. |
Walk back to the ladder. Inside the floor of the cage is another phial. Stand back from the railing and jump to the roof of the cage. There's a door that Lara will fall through, and now she's inside the cage. Grab Alchemist's Phial #2. The cage starts to drop. Jump to the side and climb up as quickly as you can. Grab to the left and pull up to the top of the cage , before it's totally submerged into the deadly pool below. The very top stays dry. You're safe. |
There's a small cubby-hole inside one wall of the pit. Crawl inside and grab the Alchemist's Phial #3. Crawl back out and drop to the cage. Climb the wall. For some reason, Lara can't climb all the way out. No problem. Back-flip out to the main floor. Go back up the stairs and insert the Phial #2 into the receptacle. Now walk into the circular room with the toxic pool and insert the last Phial #3 into the far wall receptacle... Watch what happens?? |
A cut-away scene shows the phial turning (up by the stairs) and giant wheels starting to turn. A strange white liquid starts to pour down the V-trough in the floor. It travels along the floor all the way to the circular pool and mixes with the bubbling water. The water here is now purified and safe to swim in. Jump into the water and dive down to the bottom. Grab the 3rd Periapt Shard from the pedestal. This opens the cage door exit from Eckhardt's Lab. Swim back up and go through the exit. |
Out of habit, SAVE GAME. Lara enters a huge cathedral cave with multi-levels of metal catwalks and what looks like, sophisticated high-tech equipment. There are no ladders to climb up to the catwalks. High above, the Nephilim Sleeper, is suspended inside a cage pod attached to some elaborate machinery. It looks to be glowing with blue light. There is no way to get up there? The only option is to walk to the center. Movie sequence begins. |
Eckhardt is up in the catwalks, completing the assembly of the five Obscura Painting elements into the energy sanglyph right by the sleeper. As the pieces fuse together, he and the sleeper are illuminated with brilliant bolts of blue spark-light. After it subsides and Eckhardt regains his wits, Lara starts to shoot at Eckhardt. Being arrogant, he basically tells Lara she can't stop him. She thinks otherwise? |
OK... Here we go... The final battle... Eckhardt floats down to the main floor and starts shooting streams of blue sparks at Lara. The secret here is to lie down on your stomach and watch the fireworks for awhile. While on your stomach, nothing will harm Lara. After a few tries with the fireworks, Eckhardt starts to replicate 3 copies of himself. At this point, Eckhardt is pre-occupied and won't be bothered with Lara. Walk to the middle, but just outside of the center ring, crouch down and wait. |
The 3 ghost images will run into the center ring and fuse together in a burst of blue energy. Right after the energy evaporates, Eckhardt slumps over, and is vulnerable, but only for 2-3 seconds. Quickly kick or punch him (no guns). A cut-away scene shows Lara stabbling Eckhardt with the 1st Periapt Shard. Eckhardt recovers and the whole process starts over again. Crouch and lie on your stomach. |
This time Eckhradt unleashes firebolts. If Lara stays on her stomach, she will stay untouched and healthy. Use Lara's camera to pan around the arena as Eckhardt tries to get at Lara. Again, Eckhardt creates 3 copies of himself. Crouch by the center ring again and right after he fuses together, and is vulnerable, kick him again. Now Lara stabs him with the 2nd Periapt Shard. But... again he revives himself and unleashes his third and final attack on Lara. More blue lightning this time. |
After Lara survives the 3rd round of attacks, she again kicks him in the center ring when he is tired and most vulnerable. This time, a long movie sequence begins. Lara is about to stab Eckhardt when Karel appears, and takes the 3rd shard away from her. Eckhardt commands Karel to kill Lara, but Karel stabs Eckhardt with the final Periapt Shard. Karel reveals himself to be a Nephilim. Lara is horrified as she sees him transform to Bouchard, Luddick and Kurtis. |
Bewildered by what she sees, Lara thinks back to the series of events at Von Croy's apartment. Everything becomes alot clearer now, and Lara realizes that it was the Nephilim that came by to murder Von Croy, disguised as Eckhardt. She wants nothing to do with Karel's desire to form a new benign race, and Karel storms off, calling her an ignorant mortal. Ok. Now it's time to end it all, once and for all. |
Karel has the ability to hover and has a nasty energy plasma ball that he fires at Lara, while he's circling the catwalks. If the energy hits Lara, she is paralyzed momentarily and is very slow to get up. Try to avoid being hit, for obvious reasons. Using [sprint] to move around is a good idea. First thing, grab the monstrum glove lying on the floor next to Eckhradt's body. On the back of one of the support columns, there's a receptacle for the glove. This will lower the catwalk access ladders. |
At the same time, Lara detaches the Nephilim Sanglyph from Eckhardt's glove and puts it in her back-pack. Look for one of the access ladders. Quickly climb to the second level catwalk. Watch for Karel's plasma ball, as he circles. [Sprint] to any ladder going up to the 3rd level. Once you're climbing, Karel won't fire on you. On the 3 rd level go left. Dodge the plasma balls as Karel continues to fire. Climb the ladder on the back of one of the far support columns, up to the 4th level. |
Run to the left along the inside of the catwalk. Run past the energy control panel (where Eckhardt was standing before) and look for a small metal platform jutting out on the inside. Jump from the small platform towards the Nephilim cage suspended in the middle. CLOSING MOVIE SEQUENCE BEGINS. |
Lara jumps to the Nephilim Sleeper and grabs his leg. She takes the assembled Sanglyph from her back-pack and slams it against his leg. This starts a chain reaction. The Nephilim Sleeper starts to ignite in a brilliant burst of white light. Karel, who is standing on the floor below, is impaled with an intense beam of light. The entire place blows up and Lara escapes. |
A few moments later, Lara returns to the cathedral cave. All the hi-tech machinery has vanished. Lara walks to the center of the room and stands over a pool of blood. The Nephilim weapon is on the floor. She picks it up. It starts to rattle and the blades engage. Lara struggles to hang on to it, and then the blades retract and the device goes dormant. She walks away into the dark. GAME ENDS. |
