Tomb Raider 6

Archaelogical Dig Site

Archaelogical Dig Site 1 This is an amazing place. Right underneath the Louvre, Lara finds this huge construction site, with 5 or 6 levels of scaffolding, huge banks of floodlights and chain-link fencing. There's an omenous deep pit in the middle. Everything seems to focus on this one ancient circular artifact, with 4 spinning wheels and a crank, embedded high-up in the rock face. There's 2 mobile house trailers at the back of the site. Draw your weapon (K2 impactor if you have ammo), and approach the 1st trailer.

Archaelogical Dig Site 2 As Lara approaches the trailer, a security guard runs out. Take him down quickly as he comes down the steps from the trailer. Take his K2 Impactor gun. Inside the trailer, there's a wall-mounted electrical box. Pull the switch. Generators will start, and power-up a nearby room with floodlights and a strange overhead machine, which is controlled be a computer? Go out the trailer and to the right. With your gun drawn, take out the commando as he runs out from the tent. He's deadly, so fire quickly.

Archaelogical Dig Site 3 Pick-up his Desert Ranger gun as he dies. Go inside the second trailer next to the tent. Inside are a number of desks with computer terminals. There's also a printer. Grab the paper with the Second Ancient Symbol Tracing in the printer tray. As Lara explores the trailer, there's another history lesson. This is about the extinct Nephilim Race or hybrid angel/human. There's nothing to search in the cabinets. Don't stay too long. The door will close after 30 seconds.. and lock you inside permanently.

Archaelogical Dig Site 4 As you leave the trailer, draw your K2 Impactor gun again. Another commando is waiting for you, by the tent. Take him down as quickly as you can. He's a sniper and will inflict heavy damage if you're not alert. Go through the large blue steel doors into a huge cathedral room. There's floodlights everywhere, a table with computer controls, and this huge x-ray or ultrasound detector on a gantry crane system. Move the controls [action] on the table. This activates the machine and a remote camera.

Archaelogical Dig Site 5 We are now looking down through the dirt floor. Lara can see buried bones and artifacts. The left analog stick controls the machine's direction. Scan the area in the upper left corner of the survey site. The camera will detect another ancient symbol, focus on it, and take a picture. Use the [triangle] button to leave camera mode. Take the paper with the First Ancient Symbol Copy from the printer tray. Leave the room and go to the central dig site.

Archaelogical Dig Site 6 Go down the ladder by the break in the fence. Follow the scaffolding around to the left and take the ladder down to the 3rd level of scaffolding. Walk around along the back wall and jump to the far set of scaffolding. Follow the planks around and then down another ladder to the 2nd level. A security guard on the ground floor below, is alerted and knows your close by. Jump over the railing and draw a weapon. Get the security guard at close range as quick as you can, before he shoots you.

Archaelogical Dig Site 7 Look around the ground floor. I couldn't find any goodies, but it's interesting just for the game story, to explore all the areas. Use Lara's view camera [R2] to look up. Along the far excavation wall, which seems to have good lighting, there's a series of protruding bricks and 2 landings. This wall is climbable! GO up the ladder and rock-climb the wall. If Lara is low on strength, you can always use the first landing to take a breather. Climb to the top, then left, and drop to a small ledge. SAVE GAME.

Archaelogical Dig Site 8 Engage [walk]. If you fall from here, you're toast! At the very start of the game, during one of the standby demo sequences, you can see Lara monkey-bar across the underside of this bridge. Jump up and monkey-bar across to the far wall. DON'T HESITATE. If you stop, even for just a second, Lara will not have enough strength to get to the other side and will fall to her death. At the other end. go left, jump up, grab the small wooden ledge, pull up, walk right and then climb up to the bridge.

Archaelogical Dig Site 9 The chain-link fence gates at either end of the bridge are locked, and too high to jump over. Near the middle of the bridge, there's a set of planks leading off to the left. By the far wall, inside an alcove, there's a circular iris portal with metal hinges. You can't get near it. To the left is a cage door with an electrical box. The box is blinking. Push the button. A cut-away scene, shows a make-shift elevator platfrom going down one level, and stopping, parallel to the strange spinning wheel artifact.

Archaelogical Dig Site 10 Go back across the bridge, jump down to the wooden ledge you came up, and then down to the ledge below. Face the elevator platform and jump to that scaffolding. As you approach the spinning wheel artifact, all 4 wheels mysteriously slow down and stop. This is most bizarre. The ancient artifact is made up of 4 wheels that turn in opposite directions. When you turn the rachet, the wheels all move one notch in their opposing direction. This is weird. Time to consult Von Croy's notebook.

Archaelogical Dig Site 11 On the last page of the notebook, Von Croy has a detailed sketch of the machine. It appears they have figured out 2 of the 4 symbols, but nothing more. Lara has the 2 other symbols. Using the notebook, find the crescent moon symbol on the outer wheel, and turn the crank until the symbol lines up with the latch mechanism. Now we have to find a way to lock the symbol in its place. Walk up the temporary stairs around to a well-lit alcove. Inside the wall is a drum with 4 levers.

Archaelogical Dig Site 12 Each lever controls a corresponding wheel. Pull the lever on the left, and a cut-away scene shows 2 pins locking the symbol in the the latch mechanism. Pull the lever again, and the pins unlock. Pull the lever on the left and lock the moon in place. Go back to the spinning wheel. The bullseye symbol on the 3rd wheel will be the next one to align. Go up and lock the 3rd lever. THe next symbol is the one you found on the xray, and it's on the 2nd wheel. When it aligns, go back and lock the 2nd lever.

Archaelogical Dig Site 14 The last symbol on the inside 4th wheel, is shaped like a scorpion. Once it's in place, the whole mechanism will thud and the latch rod retracts into the rock. Up above, the metal iris portal opens and the blades retract. This is our way out (or into trouble]. Go back across to the elevator platform, jump back across to the ledge, climb up to the bridge then jump down through the iris. LEVEL ENDS.
