Shorty The Hippo likes to eat berries. Once you find out how to shake berries out of a nearby bush, you can feed Shorty along the way. After eating a magic berry or two, Shorty explodes into a rather large hippo who can crash through gates and doors to open up new level areas for Spyro.

The hovering genies guarding all the doors seem to be the hardest to take-out, but all you need to do is avoid the magic balls that they shoot at you, then jump-flame them from the front or side. The little turbin sword/shield thieves are fast but a well-placed flame from the side cooks them. Each area has a pool filled with poison goo. Avoid them like the plague. There are lava balls around you can use. Some of the silver jewel cases have bullseyes on the lids. You'll need to learn how to super head-bash first. You can come back & collect these gems later.

Most of the 2nd world levels have these [?] bottles. When you flame the bottle, a picture will appear with the same bottle at a different location in the level. All you need to do is back-track Spyro to where that location is and flame the bottle once you find it. At the end of the sequence, there will be a nice reward of gems. The 1st orb challenge down by the pond on the lower level, needs the super head-bash ability so come back later. The challenge is to free the relatives that have been turned to stone. You also get to use the supershield power-up.

The other orb challenge is down-right nasty. Catching these 3 blue bandits to retrieve the magic lamps, is next to impossible. You need to chargerun at full-speed, continuously chasing them around a circuit that they repeat. At a certain point, you can cut them off just before turning a corner, then flame them head-on. They tease you while you chase them.
