Research Facility


Before going into the main research facility, Ratchet will need the Hypershot. To get this gadget, (and the Hacker), Ratchet has to complete the VR Gadget Training back on the Starship Phoenix under Special Agent Helga's supervision.

Research Facility 7 Load the Hypershot. Walk to the end of the pier. Point to the versa-target hovering high in the air, grapple and tarzan swing across the water. Heli-glide to the dock area. You may need the Gadgetron Kiosk. Buy the Holo-Shield Glove if you haven't already. YOU'LL NEED IT!! To the right is the dock area. We will go there later. Go to the left first and take the hover pad elevator up to the balcony level of the complex.

Research Facility 8 Up top, security robo-troopers are patrolling the walkway up ahead. Load the Holo-Shield Glove point the target ring down the walkway and toss a canister. The oval shield will deploy where the canister lands. The robo-troopers are startled, head for cover and start to fire plasma machine guns. Hiding behind the holo-shield, Ratchet is protected from all incoming enemy fire. Load the N90 Hurricane. Fire away at the robo-troopers through the shield. All 3 will go down eventually.

Research Facility 9 The holo-shield evaporates after a number of hits, or 10 seconds. The more the holo-shield is used the more enemy fire it absorbs, the faster it will upgrade and become stronger. Go down the walkway to the next set of blocks. Load the Holo-Shield and toss a canister near the middle of the walkway. Hide behind the shield as more robo-troopers come running out. This time load the Agents of Doom. Toss a canister past the shield to the open area past the blocks.

Watch your micro-bots deploy, run ahead and take down the robo-troopers. My Agents Of Doom are now at LV2, so they have little plasma guns mounted on their armor. They now fire away at enemies as well as self-destruction. Another hover robo-noid comes out from behind the walkway as you try to pass. Hide behind the holo-shield. Load the Flux Rifle and snipe him down from behind the blocks.

Research Facility 10 To the right, up the steps, is an open courtyard, with 5 more robo-troopers standing guard. Jump up, and hide behind the solid blocks on the left. Load the Mini-turret and toss 2 spikes near the guards. OR Load the Agents of Doom and toss 2 canisters. You can deploy up to 8 micro-bots at one time. Any way you do it, clean-out the area. Whack all the nearby crates for lots of bolts and some needed ammo as well as a Nanotech health cube. Jump up to the street.

Research Facility 11 The street is crawling with robo-troopers and snipers + a few sweep-bots. These are the same sweep-bots that were on Planet Batalia in Going Commando. Not much of a threat as long as they don't get too close and zap you. Load the Mini-turret and toss 3-4 spikes past the line of blocks then run back for cover. Load the Agents of Doom and toss 2 canisters. Let the micro-bots run ahead and take down any leftover enemies. Walk over the floor sensor and open the gate.

EXTRA BOLTS: On top of one of the curved columns in the street, look for a special Yellow 2X Crate. For a limited time, any bolt crates you whack are worth double!

Research Facility 12 Load the Holo-Shield and deploy a shield right by the gate. Toss some more mini-turret spikes then load the N90 Hurricane and help out. Watch-out for robo-troopers running out from the left and right. If the firefight gets too intense, load the Agents of Doom and deploy a few micro-bots. Another robo-noid comes out to help. He's nasty. Deploy more micro-bots and run into one of the garages out of the line of fire. The little micro-bot guns will target him while he hovers.

Research Facility 13 Off to the left is a ramp leading down to a large balcony walkway. You can see robo-troopers hiding behind the blocks waiting for you. Load the Flux Rifle and snipe them from up top. Go down the ramp and load the Mini-turret. Toss 2 spikes near the edge of the balcony as a large hover robo-noid comes up over the railing. While the robo-noid is pre-occupied by the turrets, go to the left, and whack all the crates + the Nanotech health cube. See the titanium bolt on the circular platform over the water? We'll get that soon.

Research Facility 14 At the end of the balcony there's an overhead versa-target to get to the far platform. Load the N90 Hurricane first and peg the sweep-bots on the far side. Load the Hypershot and tarzan swing across. Go to the closed door and jack the lock terminal on the right wall with the Hacker. Once done, go inside the control room and hide behind the blocks on the right. Load the Agents of Doom and toss 1 canister to your left. Let your micro-bots clean-out the enemies.

EXTRA BOLTS: All the terminals, monitors, overhead lights and tape drives against the wall, are breakable and carry bolts. Might as well trash the place while you're here.

Research Facility 15 Off to the left is a locked door. To the right is an archway leading to a computer room. This one crawling with bad guys + long-range snipers with a very deadly shot. Don't let the snipers track and lock their laser sight on you. Load the Agents of Doom and toss a canister or 2 into the room. Let your micro-bots scurry around and light-up the place. Load the Holo-Shield and deploy a shield right in the archway. Now load the Flux Rifle and snipe the snipers at the back of the room.

Research Facility 16 Go to the back of the room and hop up to the recess in the back wall. On the floor is a sensor pad. When Ratchet walks over the sensor we hear a clunk. About 15 seconds later another clunk. This is a remote door timer. The door is way back in the control room and opens temporarily to go outside to the circular pedestal platforms. Walk over the sensor and quickly jump down to the floor. Use your Charge Boots and jet across the floors to the door which should still be open.

Research Facility 17 Walk outside across the catwalk. Sniper robo-noids have taken cover behind the canopy supports and they start to open fire. Load the Holo-shield and deploy a shield on the catwalk. Load the Flux Rifle and snipe down the enemies you can zoom-in on. Run for cover behind the canopy support on the first circular platform. You can still hear gun fire and now some of the noids decide to toss some grenade canisters. Load the Agents of Doom and deploy 4 mirco-bots.

Research Facility 18 Let your micro-bots run ahead and take down all the trouble for you while you stay behind cover. Work your way down the catwalks to the last noid line of defense. Load the Flux Rifle and snipe the last 2-3 noids hiding behind the blocks. Walk down the last catwalk and grab the titanium bolt on the right. Load the N90 Hurricane and blast all the overhead canopy windows. Grab all the bolts you can. Walk back through the computer rooms and use the Hacker on the next locked door.

ANNOYING FACT: Should you happen to die anywhere along this mission, Ratchet has to start WAY BACK by the Gadgetron Kiosk down on the docks. You have to fight your way through the streets and buildings all over again. NO CONTINUE POINT.

Research Facility 19 Once you've successfuly hacked the door lock, we enter a very long connecting corridor. This place has HEAVY SECURITY! There has to be 10 robo-troopers marching in step together, and snipers hiding in the pipes and on platforms. Load the Holo-Shield and create a shield just in the doorway. Load the Agents of Doom and toss 2 canisters down the corridor. As micro-bots deploy, load the Mini-turret and toss 3-4 spikes in the middle of the fire-fight. Run back to the shield.

Load the Flux Rifle and in sniper mode, pan the crosshairs across the corridor. Look for any snipers or robo-troopers. Take down any enemies you can see. Once things have died down, go down the left and right sides of the corridor behind the main section and whack the stacks of crates. Another regimen of robo-troopers materialize near the end. Take em down with mini-turrets and micro-bots and whack the snipers standing on the columns, with your wrench. It's finally quiet!

Research Facility 20 Go to the sealed door and using the Hacker disable the door lock. Go inside the chamber. [Movie sequence begins]. Ratchet & Clank are too late. Nefarious has taken-off with the dreaded bio-annihilator weapon. Clank plays with the computer and retrieves the last known co-ordinates of where they were headed. MISSION COMPLETE. Use the teleport pad in the corner and go back to the ship.
