Rusty Pete saved your life by throwing you 2 weapons. You have your combuster and fusion grenades back. Now that Darkwater has awoken again and has left the caves, the curse has come to life. The caves are now swarming with undead pirate ghosts. You're going to have to fight them off all the way back to the entrance. Use your combutser to make short work of them. In the first area, the pirate ghosts will respawn.

If you stay in one place, the pirate ghosts will just keep on coming. You have to fight your way across to the other side. (at some point your combuster should rev-up to level 5). Use your kinetic wrench tether and pull the connecting bridge towards you even while under attack. Once you cross the bridge, the ghost pirates will stop respawning and what's left will walk away and leave you alone.

Work your way around the perimter of the cave. Pirate ghosts will abush you at various poits along the way but nothing your combuster can't handle. Look for the glow pool. Pick-up a Heliogrub and work your way back to the elevator shaft. Go inside the elevator pad and go back up to the upper cave level. A Pythor is waiting as you come out. He'll start to shoot fireballs as soon as he sees you.

Load your combuster and run out to the ledge. Strafe from left to right to avoid the barage of fireballs and the Pythor should go down with only a few seconds of continuous fire on his body. The Pythor withers away and falls back down into the abyss. Work your way through the caves til you reach the larger dark cave with the misty floor. Jump down and take care of the pirate ghosts as they try to ambush you.

The portal gate at the end of the cave is locked. Look for a hidden lava pool. Pick-up a loava rock. Run toward the gate, aim the bullseye target and throw the lava rock, busting the gate. Walk through to the next cave. Walk up the steps on the right. Watch for the pirate up top hiding behind the rocks. Take him down and make your way back to Rusty Pete's pirate shuttle ship. Head back to Hoolefar Island.
