Captain Qwark's Head Quarters is more like a military training camp than a normal civilized planet. The
first mission is to get past all the security defenses and explore the main fortress building. This is not going to be easy!

Before going anywhere, visit the Gadgetron kiosk and load up on all your ammo. At this point, I didn't bother buying the new available weapon [mine glove]. It doesn't seem to have a purpose just yet. Load the swingshot and walk to the edge of the shuttle pad plaform. Tarzan swing across both double versa-targets and then heli-glide all the way over to the far platform on-shore You should just clear the lake.

Ahead on the path, blocking the way, is a spinning cannon. This security defense weapon fires close range bombs that only detonate around the immediate area. Load the blaster. From where Rachet is standing, auto-aim on the cannon and fire 2-3 shots. The cannon will explode. Touch the red crates beside you on the ground, collect the bolts and walk down the path to the bridge. Collect all the bolts from the cannon.

Walk across the bridge almost to the end. Rachet's blaster should still be loaded. From the safety of the bridge, take-out the 2 spinning cannons. Once the dust clears, walk to the next open area, but don't go to far. Up ahead are 2 spiked hover mines. If you get too close to these hover mines, they will detect your presence, raise their spikes and chase you. With the blaster still loaded, 1 auto-aimed shot will destroy each one. Break all the nearby crates.

As you walk farther down the path, a turret machine gun starts firing. This defense weapon fires a steady stream of bullets that sweep from left to right to left. Don't bother trying to destroy the turret. You don't have enough time. Jump over and around the stream of bullets. Work your way up the path to a safe spot (just out of firing range) left of the turret. Whack the turret with your wrench. The machine gun will pop back into the ground leaving only a lid cover.

NOTE: Whacking the turret machine gun back into the ground, is only temporary. The turret pops open again after 10 seconds and will resume firing. Unfortunately.. I've yet to find any weapon that can destroy these guys.

Slowly walk up the steps behind the turret machine gun. Load the blaster. There's a hover mine waiting on the landing up ahead. Take care of the mine and walk to the next bridge. Watch the moving convoy of hover mines. Peg each one with the blaster as they come across the bridge. Walk across, collect all the bolts and destroy the 2 spinning cannons up ahead. Clean-out the red crates in the area and walk up the stairs at the far end.

There are 2 more hover mines by the bridge. Because they are soooo close, almost too close for the blaster, load the pyrocitor while on the stairs, jump up the last step and flame both mines. Destroy the convoy of hover mines patrolling the bridge and walk over to the far side. Load up with more goodies and use the Nanotech health sphere. There are 3 timer sensor pads in the ground. Walk over all 3 sensors in any sequence and they will all change color, a buzzer sounds, and the fortress gate will open.

Now you know why that gate was locked. YIKES! Load the blaster and from the gate, or just inside the gate, destroy all 5 spinning cannons. Break all the crates in the corners, clean-up all the bolts and then run to all 3 timer sensor pads in any sequence and open the next gate. Because the sensors are far apart, you have to do this quickly. Drop your loaded weapon and go back to Rachet's trusty wrench. You won't need any firepower for awhile.

These next 2 bridge sections are a little trickey. The light-colored floor panels are trap-doors. If you walk on any of the trap-door sections for any length of time, Rachet falls to his death. Should he fall, you'll start all over again way back at the shuttle pad! Jump and bounce over the lighter sections. You will hear the trap door mechanism giveway, but there's enough time to clear both bridges. Watch for the turret machine gun fire on the other side and run to the left.

Out of turret range behind the building, Rachet can break all the crates and watch the machine gun. The spray of
bullets sweep from left to right and back again along the barbed wire maze. Run to the end of the first row jumping over the line of bullets as it passes. Bump the red crates at the end and stand back, but be careful not to jump back into machine gun fire. Continue along the 2nd row of barbed wire and then double back down the last row, jumping over the bullet trails.

Rachet is now clear of the barbed wire and can face the machine gun without injury. Whack the turret with your wrench and move on to the edge of the cliff. Load the swingshot. Swing to the 2 versa-targets and then to the far bridge. Off to the right is a locked building. Off to the left is another series of machine gun turrets and another maze. This is going to get a little tough. Before you go crazy, try to find the location of the 3 sensor pads first. This will make life so much easier if you can plan a route to run.

Load the pyrocitor or blaster. Fire at the turrets and run down the wall on the right. Run over the 1st sensor. Turn left and dodge the machine gun fire. At the end of the wall, turn left again and run over the 2nd sensor. Avoid more machine gun fire and jump to the 3rd sensor straight ahead. Once you land on the 3rd sensor pad, the buzzer sounds and the door opens to the main fortress. OK! Explore and clean-out the area even with machine gun fire everywhere.

STRATEGY NOTE: If Rachet should happen to die right here, under attack from the machine guns, the replay starting point will be near the barbed wire maze and not at the very start of the level
(which may be good to know about now).

Before going into the main fortress, go back across the bridge to the domed bulding with the locked door. Off to the right, is a small ledge circling the building, with 3 sensor pads. Heli-jump over to the ledge and run around to the back of the building tripping all 3 sensors. This will open the door. Heli-jump back to the bridge, and you'll discover that you have found a secret gold bolt. Go inside and claim the reward. Collect the bolts from the stockpile of crates inside.

This completes the first part of the walkthrough even though we are not finished the mission yet. This seemed to be natural break point in the level. Rachet will now work through the 2nd half of the mission, inside the fortress.
