Explore The Wilderness

After Rachet receives the O2 mask on Planet Pokitaru, it will be safe to come back to the Kogor Refinery and explore the other uncharted areas that were out of reach for Clank. From the shuttle pad, jump to the vent pipe on the right. From there, jet-glide down to the valley. This should be your second time going through this section. All forcefield gates are open and there are no mutants hanging around.

Planet Orxon 23 Once again, we come to a fork in the path by the Gadgetron kiosk. Before going down to the right, load up with ammo. Because this will be the more difficult of the 2 paths to finish, it's a good thing Rachet now has Premium Nanotech [5 health spheres]. Should Rachet happen to die somewhere in the wilderness, the game will reset back to this point. Make sure that you stock-up with all your ammo every time you come back.

Planet Orxon 33 Load the blaster. Down the path on the right, there's a sleeping mutant spider crab. As you get closer, the target ring on the blaster will auto-lock. Fire 6-7 shots at the crab. Remember that some of these mutant enemies will be getting tougher as we go deeper into the game. Up ahead in a valley, are 4 more sleeping crabs and 2 birds. Load the glove of doom and throw 2 canisters down into the area. Watch the nano-robots run around and clean-out the mutants for you.

Planet Orxon 34 Jump down to the valley and clean-up all the bolts including some hidden ones. Up ahead across the toxic lake, is a high ledge with more sleeping crabs. You can see an infobot glowing in the distance. It will run away shortly. Load the blaster, use the zoom-auto-aim [L1] to target. Fire on all the crabs and flying birds. You will go through a ton of ammo doing this. Make sure the upper platform is clear, before you attempt to jet-glide over. Run to the edge, power-jet-glide over the lake and grab the far ledge.

Planet Orxon 35 Pull up from the ledge and grab all the bolts that were left behind. The infobot flies away. Use your magneboots and walk across the vent system to the far side. There are lots of twists and turns. Along one section are 3 timed spray valves that release toxic flames. Watch the timer cycle of each nozzle and walk across each one as the spray stops. The next upside down section has attacking flying birds. Our only defense is the trusty wrench. Whack them as best you can. You'll take some health damage.

Planet Orxon 36 Walk all the way down the vent shaft until you return right-side-up on another high ledge. Grab the Nanotech health sphere on the left. There is another forcefield gate ahead of you, but no magento switch to turn it off. Look up and you'll see a versa-target ball. Load the swingshot and zoom over top of the forcefield to the other side. When you drop to the ground, you'll be surrounded by 4 sleeping spider crabs. Be calm! Don't wake them up just yet. That would be major trouble!

DIFFERENT STRATEGY: I found this out quite by accident, going through the game a second time. Before swinging over the forcefield, jump down to the ground and load the Taunter. Fire some noise at the crabs. They'll be annoyed and come rushing to the forecfield and will be electocuted. COOL! And to boot, you get a skill point.

Planet Orxon 37 Jump over the crabs to the edge of the path behind the crates. Load the glove of doom and toss 2 canisters. Quickly load the walloper while the nano-robots are trying to contain the spider crabs. With all this confusion, one crab may escape and come after Rachet. Use the walloper to finish them off, if you have to. Grab all the bolts and goodies before you go. Load the swingshot again and using the overhead versa-targets, tarzan swing over to the next platform.

Planet Orxon 38 If Rachet is going to die, this is probably where it's going to happen. After you drop from swinging through the versa-targets, 4 flying birds start attacking you right away. Before you get a chance to load any weapon, you'll be damaged once or twice. Load the pyrocitor or walloper and try to stay alive. 4 more spider crabs are waiting for you. This time load the disruptor, and fire 2 blind shots at each crab. That should stop them. Grab the Nanotech health sphere.

WEAPON STRATEGY: This section of path was the toughest to get through alive. When chosing a weapon to destroy spider crabs at close range, you have to think speed and safety. Nano-robots are unreliable at close range to get all 4 crabs. Glove bombs need 3 direct hits to kill 1 crab, so you would have to throw 12 bombs within about 5 seconds which is impossible. The pyrocitor and blaster are weaker weapons that require 7-8 hits per crab to take them down, Rachet would be damaged several times and probably dead, before you cleared-out the area. Think smart!

Planet Orxon 39 If you've survived the last path section, jet-glide to the next path leading up the stairs. From the top stair, you can see 2 sleeping spider crabs blocking a narrow walkway. Load the glove of doom an toss 1 canister. Watch the nano-robots destroy them and walk around to the right. Throw 2 more cansiters and take-out the 4 sleeping crabs by the forcefield gate. Grab all the goodies and the much-needed Nanotech health sphere. Whack the 3 magento switches and walk through the gate. Don't venture too far!

Planet Orxon 40 Another security patrol space ship shows up at the end of the path. Run back to the gate just out of his missle range. Load the visibomb gun and guide a missle at the ship. There may be other space ship traffic blocking a direct missle path, so this may take 2-3 guided missles. Walk down the path and load the pyrocitor first. Take down the flying birds as they approach. Load the glove of doom again and use your last canister on the sipder crabs by the open doorway.

Planet Orxon 41 As you turn the corner to the left, you can see the infobot hovering inside a doorway. Whack all the crates that you can. There are blue crates as well. Use the walloper. Take the much-needed Nanotech health sphere. As you walk inside the next chamber, the Magneboots take over. Walk up the wall and around to the right. Go inside the archway halfway up. Rachet will finish his walk right-side-up again. We are now high above the refinery tank storage room.

Walk up to the infobot [movie sequence begins]. Chairman Drek shows off his new weapon that will destroy a planet. We now have co-ordinates to go to Planet Hoven.

Planet Orxon 41 You may remember that Clank was here earlier. Recognize the metal catwalk down below?. Jet-hover down to the platform on the right. You have 2 choices here. We can go left through the maze room and the valley area with all the bombs, or go right and face the mutant frogs. Either way will return us to the shuttle pad. If you go right, load the pyrocitor and flame all the mutant frogs as they run around the fences. If you go left, you won't need weapons. Mission complete!

Return Visit

After getting the Map-O-Matic on Planet Kalebo III, your planet mission map will reveal a new hidden area down in the wilderness valley, that is available to explore. Find your way back to the open wilderness area with all the bombs being detonated.

Planet Orxon 43 There's a glowing gold bolt high on a far ledge. To get at it, Rachet needs to blow-out the doors blocking the inside of the worm-tunnel all the way to the very end. Rachet can then walk up the worm from the other end to get the gold bolt. Load the visibomb gun and guide 5-6 missles through the tunnel. This is trickey. There are 4 doors inside the tunnel to knock-down. Try not to over-steer the missle. Once the tunnel is open, walk through the wilderness area again, find the opening, and get the bolt.
