On the far side of the fort city, there's a connecting bridge to a small island. On this island there's a huge air defense turret cannon. Time to go blow up the Blarg warships flying slowly around the city.
Recognize this guy? He's the plumber or mechanic that we first met on the Blarg Space Station. He tells Rachet about the air defense system and how no-one seems to be skilled enough to operate it. Rachet thinks he is up to the challenge. Climb up the steps and the screen automatically changes to a heads-up display. Inside the turret, there is a target ring display for aiming and firing the cannon and a proximity radar in the lower right-hand corner.
As you swivel inside the turret, the objects in the radar display will move. The red radar blips are the 4 warships. They are flying slowly and don't move much on the radar. The white radar blips are Blarg missles being fired from the warships. They are fast-moving heat-seekers trying to destroy you and the cannon. Each warship will try to defend itself once it takes a couple of direct cannon hits. Be careful! The heat-seeker missles seem to come out of nowhere.
Once you see a yellow fire trail coming from a heat-seeker, try to fire on it right away. If a warship missle reaches the turret, the mechanic re-appears and explains that he has repaired the turret for you once again and Rachet will have to start over. This is not easy! You have to be on the look-out for stray missles all the time. Pieces from the warship will break-off and vaporize with every direct cannon hit. 10-20 well-aimed cannon shots should destroy a warship.
GAMEPLAY NOTE: Don't forget to watch the energy meter in the lower left-hand corner. As you fire the cannon, you consume plasma energy. Use the cannon energy wisely (no stray shots) and there will be no problems getting all 4 ships. Destroying all 4 warships and 1 small high-speed jet, WITH NO INJURY OR TURRET HIT, will earn Ratchet a
skill point.
Once all 4 warships are destroyed, the mechanic will give you a reward... a metal bolt detector. Watch the instruction video from the Gadgetron HelpDesk and then search for hidden bolts. Very cool! Once you're done, take the hover taxi from the island, back to the shuttle pad. Check your status [select] and make sure all the missions are checked off (it's a big list). From here, we need to visit Planet Pokitaru next.
EXTRA STRATEGY: If you want to practice your weapon skills and maybe grab a huge stockpile of bolts, I would suggest going back to each of the planets and looking for hidden bolts with the detector. Don't think of this as a waste of time. You do need to stockpile lots of bolts to buy ammo on future planets.
