In the garage compound, pick the Sand Hopper. We're going island-hopping (unfortunately not the vacation type of island hopping?) |
VEHICLE STRATEGY: The Sand Hopper is the only vehicle that will give you the HIGH JUMP. You're going to need this jump to traverse the water from island to island to get to the volcano. Practice the jump out in the open desert. Press and hold down [L1]. The frame of the dune buggy squats down like a spring. Release [L1] and the buggy spring-jumps into the air. Love the effect!! You can feel the loaded spring in the controller. |
Drive out into the desert and look for the "plane" symbol in the radar. When you get to the ocean, take down a few Marauders and go to the left to the string of islands. Press [L1] and load the hopper spring. Accelerate down the island, and just before the edge of the island, release [L1] and spring across the water to the next island. Immediately hit the brakes [square] when you land, to stop the buggy cold in its tracks. Line-up the buggy in reverse, for the next jump. |
Load the spring in the buggy again [hold down L1], accelerate across the small island, release the spring [L1] and jump across to the next island. Repeat these steps across the string of islands til you get to the base of the volcano. Drive along the beach of the volcano, then up through the canyon. Load the buggy spring again [L1] then jump across the chasm to the far side. Stop the vehicle up by the large gate to the temple. Climb out from the buggy. |
ORBS: If you look up to the second level of the entrance gate, you can see more Precursor orbs hovering. Run back along the canyon. On the left, there's a ledge you can jump and climb to. Walk back along the canyon ledges up to the gate. Walk and hop on the ledge of the 2nd level and grab the orbs. Jump down to get to the temple. |
Walk through the temple gate. Go to the right and walk through the tall stone archway and doors into the temple. [Movie sequence begins] Jak looks up inside the temple. It's very high. And of course, you know we're going to have to climb that sucker! The doors to the temple catacombs are blocked by a "seeing eye". Once you get close, the floor springs to life with deadly spikes. We can't pass through there just yet. |
Jump to the square block on the ground. From there jump to the round flower pot, then up to the awning. The screen cam will go passive and zooms out. Jump on the awning. It acts like a bounce pad. Bounce up and grab the edge of the wall block. Pull up. Jump across the blocks to the end. Swing up the poles to the next level of blocks. Jump back across the wall blocks to the end. WATCH-OUT FOR FRACTURED BLOCKS THAT BREAK AWAY. Quickly hop over them. |
Climb up the stairs inside the temple wall, and then walk out the balcony up top. Jump across the next set of blocks being mindful of the break-away blocks. Swing up the poles to the next level. Jump back across the blocks to the very end. Again watch-out for break-away blocks. We're nearly done. At the very last block, swing up 2 wall poles and jump to the last block on the left, at the top. We're now on a mountain-top terrace overlooking the Wasteland. It's a beautiful thing. |
Walk out onto the terrace and approach the hang-glider. [Movie sequence begins]. Jak comments to Daxter that the monks must have used these hang-gliders to get to the volcano. Daxter doesn't want any part of this and comments to Jak that if he had feathers he would fly, but he has fur, so he's not flying. No way. No how. Zippo chance! Jak grabs Daxter from behind, and away we go on the hang-glider. |
