After the rendezvous with Ashelin and the firefight with the Maruaders, out in the Wasteland Oasis, Jak returns to the Monk Temple with the Dune Hopper. |
After jumping out from the Dune Hopper, use your new jetboard [R2]. Why walk when you don't have to? Plus it's a good time to get familiar with the steering and jump controls, because you are going to use it shortly. Hover into the main courtyard of the temple. The door to the temple catacombs is not guarded, so your Dark Eco Invisibility is not needed. Just walk through the door and go in. Load the Beam Reflexor before going in. New flying MetalHeads are waiting. |
These enemies are a little tougher again and they like to fire back at you. Just fire away with the Reflexor, and let the continuous criss-cross of bullets seek and destory anything left standing ahead of you and around corners. It's an amazing weapon for shooting around blind corners, and is very efficient at using ammo as it ricochets off the walls and ground. In short order, pest control is complete. Go all the way down the stairs and load-up with Dark Eco at the streaming vent. |
Walk down the corridor again into the circular chamber. The place is very quiet but no worries. This time, walk up to the door that looks like a giant Ying-Yang symbol. It's actually fashioned like the Seal Of Mar and Jak now has the door key that Ashelin gave him out in the Oasis. [Movie sequence begins]. Jak approaches the door and holds out his Seal Of Mar. The door retracts and opens. Load the Beam Reflexor again and walk slowly. More flying MetalHeads attack. |
Work your way down the hallway to the end. Whack the nearby vases for lots of MetalHead Skull Gems. To the left is a huge underground cathedral or chapel that is partially flooded from the sewers. Jak can walk in the water, it's not that deep, but it's going to be of little help to you here. Walk up and tap the blue & white energy burst. It releases and flies to the end of the cathedral into the giant Mar symbol in the wall. Cool effect! We need to find 18 energy bursts. |
This is jetboard territory. All of the energy bursts can be captured by jumping or eco-charge power-jumping on the jetboard. The trick is to steer the jetboard close enough and then to time the jump to get the burst in mid-air. Most of the time you will be moving. It's next to impossible to just stop and hover on the jetboard. The first 4 or 5 energy bursts are close to the water and are easily snagged by racing around the waterpool. One burst is on a reachable ledge to the left. |
One section of wall on the left and on the right, have incline half-pipe ramps that Jak can climb on his jetboard. Work your way through the long passageways on the jetboard, collecting energy bursts as you go (the number of bursts remaining to collect is on the right). At some points, you'll circle back around to the main cathedral but on a different higher level. Use and hold down [square] to grind the rails with the jetboard, giving you access to the other passageways. |
Once you've released all the energy bursts, the exit door to the cathedral will open. Power-jump up to the steps then walk out to the small room. Whack all the nearby vases for more MetalHead Skull Gems and even a bonus Precursor Orb. Go down the next corridor and meet up with the Oracle again. [Movie sequence begins] The Oracle is glad to see the great warrior again and has a new Light Eco power for Jak. This power slows down time to pass fast-moving barriers. |
This is only the mid-point of the monk temple tests for Jak. Go back to the small room and charge up with Light Eco in the streaming vent. Activate Jak's Light Eco Time Freeze Power (the screen will turn misty blue like in a dream sequence). Jump across the spinning stone hover pads that are now motionless in the time freeze. Jump to the far balcony. Use [L2] to regain Jak's normal self. Jump on the jetboard and work your way down the corridors back thru the cathedral. |
This set of temple corridors is more trickey than the last set. There are deep pits in some sections and grind rails to navigate across. It will test your jetboarding skills. DON'T OVERSTEER! Work your way up the levels of the cathedral and grind across the main cathedral hall. Eventually Jak will end up back in the room with the moving swing bars where we were not too long ago. This time we're up top and have a challenge in front of us. Recharge Jak's Light Eco in the streaming vent. |
The turbine dirveshafts are spinning very fast. We have to somehow get across. Activate Jak's Light Eco Time Freeze and slam the floor. The turbines will slow down just enough so that Jak can run and hop along them. The shafts are still turning. Anticipate the rotation of the shafts and jump to each section as it becomes level. Quickly hop again before the shaft rotates causing you to slide off to your death. Avoid the blades at all costs. You'll still be injured if you make contact. |
At the end of each driveshaft, there will be another Light Eco vent to recharge. Maneuver across the 4 driveshafts then out the last corridor. There's a bridge leading across to another building. You can see the Seal Of Mar symbol on the door. THE BRIDGE IS NOT SAFE! It will crumble away as you attempt to walk across. Activate Jak's Light Eco Time Freeze and run across the bridge as it collapses underneath you. You have just enough time to make it across. Go down the elevator. |
Exit to the large room. We are now deep in the catacombs. Approach the hover car. [Movie sequence begins]. Pecker the parrot flies in to greet you. He is so happy to see you. Pecker relays the message that his owner Onin, says that she needs Jak back in the city, because bad things are going to happen. Jak pulls out his Seal Of Mar and turns on the hovercar. Care for a little ride? They take off down the Catacomb Subrails. |
