After finishing up with Sig out in the desert, and defending the gate to Spargus, Jak returns to Haven City with the Freedom League Personnel Carrier.

Grab a Zoomer and fly across the city into MetalHead territory. Go to the ramp leading to the forest. You can track your way using the proximity radar and the "tree" icon. Walk through the double access doors into the forest area. Approach the first floodlight beacon closeby. As Jak walks near, the Precursor statue rises up from the ground. The statue is silent. Whack the statue with a spin or punch move. The statue awakens and discharges a blue spark stream.

The objective of the pillar rings, is to chase the blue spark through each iris ring as it materializes. Jak is on a timer and using the Jetboard is a must. The timer resets after passing through each iris, up to a maximum of about 8 seconds. Surf through each iris in sequence until you reach the red iris ring which will be near the starting point, by the statue. The statue will explode in white light and activate a round platform in the lake accessing the AstroViewer.

After each successful iris ring course, the next statue will be lit by a floodlight beacon. Repeat the process again and complete the next iris ring course surfing through the red iris ring at the end. A cut-away scene will show another platform in the lake rising up. This platform, a little higher than the pervious one. There are 5 Precursor Statues in all to access. Once all 5 ring courses are complete, the planetary rings around the platforms will move (circular orbits).

Walk out to the lake and climb the circular platforms to the top. Walk into the floodlight up top. [Movie sequence begins] Jak has activated an ancient technology Precursor Telescope. Jak looks through the eye-piece into space. The Precursors explain to Jak, about the Dark Makers and how they came to be. They also explain that this fight has been going on for centuries between 2 very powerful forces in the universe. If the planet were to be lost, it would not be a surprize?

The Dark Maker ship is an omenous sight. It's like a giant caterpillar hovering in space. The Precursors explain there is a Planetary Defense Shield deep in the catacombs and if turned-on in time, will save the planet form the Dark Forces. Jak is charged with finding them deep in the core of the planet. As gameplay returns, jump back down the platforms down to the lake, and surf with the jetboard back out to the access doors.

Once back in Haven City, grab a Zoomer and fly back to Freedom HQ deep in the north section of the city. Use the proximity radar to navigate to the "shield" icon.
