Jak II

Catch Kanga-Rats

After completing the arena challenge, Jak & Daxter walk down the hallway. Leaning up against the wall is a new face. Time to meet Kleiver...

Catch Kanga-Rats 1 [Movie sequence begins] Kleiver explains that he's Damas' right hand man and one of the Wastelanders runnin' the place. He's a bit obnoxious, but has your best interest in mind. He has a job for Jak. He's been having a pest infestation problem and needs you to ride his Leaper Lizard and take care of the kanga-rats raiding his storerooms in the village. Kleiver says he may let you drive a dune buggy after.

Catch Kanga-Rats 2 The Leaper Lizard is waiting just inside the exit to the village. Approach the lizard and use [triangle] to mount, once in range. The controls for the Leaper are basic. He is in a slow run mode most of the time. Steering is with the left analog stick. [X] makes the Leaper jump. Most obstacles more than a few feet high can be jumped over. Tap [X] while in mid-air and he flutters his wings giving him extra lift for a higher longer jump. The shock controller makes this feel quite realistic.

Catch Kanga-Rats 3 Our mission is to find and grab 6 kanga-rats. To find a kanga-rat, look to the proximity radar map in the lower right corner of the screen. The kanga-rats show-up as pulsing red circles. As Jak navigates through the streets of the village, you'll see his progress on the map. Once you home-in on a kanga-rat, look for a fast-moving dust cloud just ahead of you. Run the Leaper after the rat. It's a wild ride. Once you get close, use [square] to power-punch the rat with the head of the Leaper.

Catch Kanga-Rats 4 Kleiver never told you that Leapers like to EAT kanga-rats. YUCK!! Once you're done feeding on a rat, go find the other ones. There is NO TIME LIMIT on this mission, so enjoy the scenery and do some snooping around the village. Many of the houses in the village have sacks, crates and urns right near the door or on a nearby patio. Use the Leaper and jump on the crates and sacks. You'll be pleasantly surprised at all the Precursor Orbs + Metalhead Skull Gems to collect. There's alot.

Catch Kanga-Rats 5 In some areas of the village, there are Mystery Precursor Statues tucked between buildings or down a side alley. These are small challenge games that Jak can carry-out to get more Precursor Orbs. You can only access STATUES WITH LIT EYES. Statues that are still dark do not offer a challenge. All statues need an entrance fee, usually 5-10 Metalhead Skull Gems. Most games are hide and seek with a limited timer or iris ring obstacle courses riding a Leaper.

Once Jak has caught all 6 kanga-rats, Kleiver breaks-in on a mobile monitor and says thanx for a job well done. He says to meet him later at the garage on the outskirts of the village. Meanwhile, Damas has requested that you go check-out a satellite that washed up on the beach. A new icon appears on your proximity radar.
