Car Jacking
Liberty City and all the neighbourhoods are big! You cannot survive on foot alone. Any car is available to be taken. I would suggest waiting til they stop, or take a parked car. Use [triangle] to break a window. Once Niko is inside the vehicle (the alarm may go off). Use [L2] to disable the alarm and start the engine. Drive off like nothing happened. If a police car happens to see the crime, they will probably pursue you with sirens.

Radar & HUD Display
The circle in the lower left hand corner is your map radar close-up or HUD. You are represented by an arrow in the center of the circle. This is your navigation location system. Whenever you travel by foot or by vehicle, your progress will be shown in real time in the radar circle. All the streets and points of interests will also show up, including mission contacts.

Subway Transit
There's a massive subway system operating 4 different lines, running between the boroughs. They're all elevated trains and are accessible by street level stairwells. Subways are great for escaping from the police (ditching the car) or for car repo side jobs. Cost $1 per ride which is a bargain if you want to avoid toll bridges.

Night And Day
The game moves from day to night and back to daylight like in real life. There are morning dawn missions and dusk missions. Weather can be a factor. There are days with morning fog, rainy gloomy days and severe thunderstorms with no visibility. Of course, the roads will get slippery and trying to evade police will be a challenge.

 |
Your Cellphone
Like in real life, this is your lifeline. All your side jobs and meet-ups are through messages and phonecalls. Friends will call you for new work or just wanting to hang out. Use the [UP arrow pad] to use the phone. IMPORTANT: as you develop friendships, your cellphone will bring a free taxi ride, bring you guns, or take-out food. Contacts are added as you meet them.

 |
Car Wash
There are several car wash locations around the city area. Each car wash costs $5. Great for getting grime, blood and some damage off your car before delivering it to a compound, or before going out on a date or rendezvous with any of your friends. Image is important for respect and like levels. They are all open 24 hours. HINT: There are some great new rides in the parking lots.

 |
TW@ Internet Cafe
The internet cafe has only 2-3 locations in Liberty City. Once you create an email account, you can access the Love Meet dating site and access side jobs from Brucie. It's always good advice to check up with email every other day to stay current with news, and new jobs. HINT: You want to date new people (curiosity).

 |
Toll Booths
When you're driving across bridges from island to island, you have to pay a $5 toll. PAY THE TOLL! Don't run the toll booth. It's not worth the police aggrivation. Creep up to the booth. Niko will automatically pitch coins into the bin. The gate will open. Don't rush or push you're way through. If you have traffic in front, let them go through one by one and wait your turn.

 |
Entertainment
All venues are open 24 hours. There are eating venues like Cluck n'Bell, Burger Shot and the City Diner. There are roadside vendors that serve hot dogs, burgers, soda. There's lots of recreational spots for 10-pin bowling, billiards, or darts. And of course... a few strip clubs and bars. Each venue has different pricing but all are reasonable (except $50 lap dances)

LCPD Police
Your ever watchful eyes on the city. The police are a funny breed? You can run a red light right in front of them. Don't jack a car when they are nearby. They'll give chase. Don't shoot people out in the streets. Don't jack a police car with anyone watching. If things get real bad, they'll deploy the pursuit helicopter. For your own protection, best do your really bad things at night.

 |
Pay N Spray
This will become one of your favorite places to visit later in the game as you get more dangerous and complete more missions. Pay N Spray is where you go to remove "wanted" stars. It will cost you to remove stars from the police "most wanted" register, but in the long run, the longer you stay clean, the better. HINT: Never come here if the police are watching.
